Skills for everyday life and future goals

Life skills support focuses on the things you want to learn, practise or manage more independently. Goals may be small and immediate or connected to a bigger life change. We break them into practical steps, work at your pace and recognise progress along the way.

Everyday routines

Practise planning, meal preparation, shopping, household organisation and other agreed daily skills.

Decision-making

Build confidence comparing options, making choices, asking questions and speaking up about your preferences.

Communication

Develop practical communication skills for appointments, community activities, study, work and relationships.

Planning and organisation

Use reminders, schedules, checklists and strategies that make tasks clearer and easier to manage.

Support through life-stage transitions

Transitions can include leaving school, starting further study, moving home, changing routines, beginning work or taking on new responsibilities. We can help you prepare, understand the steps involved and practise the skills relevant to your goal.

Support is coordinated around your choices and approved plan. Where another professional or service is better placed to help, we can work alongside them with your consent or explain where to seek appropriate advice.

Employment and higher education goals

Citywide Home Care is registered to assist participants to access or maintain employment or higher education. Depending on your plan and agreed support, this may involve building routines, preparing for travel, organising tasks, developing workplace or study confidence and maintaining participation.

We do not promise a job, course place or particular outcome. The focus is on practical support that helps you pursue your own goal and participate as independently as possible.

Turning a goal into practical steps

  1. Choose the goal. You decide what you want to learn, change or work towards.
  2. Break it down.Together, we identify realistic steps, helpful strategies and the support you prefer.
  3. Practise and review. We keep checking what is useful and adapt the approach as your confidence grows.

Life skills support questions

Do I need to know exactly what skill I want to work on?

No. You can start with a broader goal or challenge, and we can help identify practical skills that may support it.

Can family or a support coordinator join the discussion?

Yes, if you want them involved. Your consent, preferences and goals remain central to the conversation.

Can the support change as I make progress?

Yes. Agreed support should be reviewed and adjusted when your goals, circumstances or level of independence change.

Which areas do you cover?

We accept life skills and transition support enquiries from Seven Hills, Blacktown, Parramatta, Liverpool, Penrith, Wentworthville and surrounding Western Sydney communities, subject to suitability and current availability.
